The Aircraft Operations Lab at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, spearheading the E-CONTRAIL project, actively participated in the Sustainable Skies Conference: Contrails in Focus hosted by CANSO and EUROCONTROL on November 7-8, 2023, in Brussels.
The main objective of the event was to bring together scientists, researchers, the aviation industry, policy makers and other stakeholders to improve the understanding of the formation and characteristics of contrails and contrail-induced cirrus clouds, together with their impact on climate – and to explore potential mitigation measures to minimise their occurrence.
Manuel Soler, head of the Aircraft Operations Lab and coordinator of the E-CONTRAIL project, was invited to participate by EUROCONTROL, who recognized the project’s commitment to advancing knowledge related to the climate impact of contrails.
The two-day event took place in EUROCONTROL Headquarters and received a huge participation, with 250 attendees, complemented by an online turnout of over 2,000 participants, peaking at nearly 4,000 on the opening day.
