We bring science and engineering closer to children with the RefMap project

On Monday, February 26, a scientific outreach activity took place at CEIP Calderón de la Barca in Leganés, led by María Cerezo, a member of the Aircraft Operations Lab UC3M, by Cecilia Hernández, from the Spanish Space Agency (AEE), and by the aerospace engineer Lucía Lacambra.

The objective of the activity was to bring science and engineering closer to children aged 8-10. It also served as a unique opportunity to introduce current research projects, such as RefMap, where primary school students understood the connection between aviation and climate change.

The workshop “Space: Build Your First Satellite” was conducted to also introduce the younger audience to space. This UC3M activity is part of a scientific outreach initiative called “Researchers at Schools” by MADRIDNIGHT, a project coordinated by the Madri+d Foundation and funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Program, with grant agreement number 101.061.343. Additionally, it is part of “Una ingeniera en cada cole” an initiative by the Women for Technological Innovation Network of the Association of Women Researchers and Technologists (AMIT-MIT), and it has been carried out in the framework of the RefMap Project (GA 101096698).
