Women and Rockets: 8M Workshop at CEIP Ángel González

On March 7th, as part of the initiatives for the International Women’s Day (8M), María Cerezo, professor at the Aircraft Operations Lab at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, led a special workshop at CEIP Ángel González in Leganés.

The young students, two classes of 3-year-olds, are currently working on a project about China. For this occasion, they learnt about Liu Yang, the first Chinese woman to travel to space. Liu Yang became a symbol of progress in 2012, when she flew aboard the Shenzhou 9 spacecraft, marking a milestone for women in aerospace.

During the workshop, María Cerezo introduced the children to the significance of International Women’s Day and the role of women in science, technology, and space exploration. The session then turned hands-on, as the young participants built their very first rockets! Their excitement and enthusiasm were truly inspiring, showing that it’s never too early to ignite a passion for aerospace and STEM fields.

Thanks to CEIP Ángel González for this opportunity. At the Aircraft Operations Lab at UC3M, we hope to keep inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers!
