The Ministry of Universities announced the availability of FPU (University Teacher Training) doctoral scholarships. These scholarships are open to prospective candidates, both nationally and internationally, who have demonstrated academic excellence with a grade equal to or higher than ~80% in their bachelor’s and/or master’s degrees.
The primary objective of these grants is to fund pre-doctoral contracts that facilitate the completion of doctoral theses at Spanish Universities. They are specifically designed to support research training in doctoral programs, aiming to enable recipients to obtain a Doctorate degree and develop essential teaching skills in any scientific field. The overarching goal is to facilitate the integration of recipients into the Spanish higher education system and the scientific research community.
Interested candidates are encouraged to review the research lines of the program to align their interests and identify potential supervisors. For further guidance, applicants can reach out to the Program Director, Manuel Soler.
The deadline for the submission of applications is set from January 17 to February 15, 2024. Successful applicants will be awarded pre-doctoral contracts in affiliated centers, with a standard duration of four years. However, individuals with disabilities may be eligible for an extended six-year duration, as outlined in Article 21 c) of Law 14/2011, dated June 1, on Science, Technology, and Innovation.
It’s noteworthy that applicants who have already earned a doctorate before the start of the last year of FPU aid can access a one-year Postdoctoral Orientation Period (POP). Additionally, grant recipients are permitted to utilize the funds for a significant and beneficial stay in foreign (or exceptionally Spanish) research centers. This experience is expected to contribute to achieving the training objectives of the FPU aid, enhancing predoctoral training, and facilitating postdoctoral specialization.
There are certain incompatibilities, such as individuals who have previously received a grant for more than 24 months at the time of applying, and those who have benefited from FPU grants in previous calls are not eligible to apply for this particular call. Prospective applicants are advised to carefully review the eligibility criteria and contact the Program Director for any further inquiries.
