As part of the 2025 Madrid Science and Innovation Week, the Aircraft Operations Lab at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) hosted the hands-on workshop “Build Your Own Water Rocket with La Astropatrulla Basurilla”, led by Professor Manuel Soler with the support of Laboratory Technician Carlos Cobos.
Held on 12 November at the UC3M Leganés Campus, the session welcomed around 50 fourth-grade students from the Gerardo Diego School in Leganés. Throughout the activity, participants had the opportunity to design, assemble, and finally launch their own water rockets—experiencing aerospace engineering concepts such as propulsion, aerodynamics, and stability through direct experimentation.
The workshop offered a fun and engaging introduction to scientific thinking, while also promoting curiosity about space and flight among younger audiences. Moments of creativity, teamwork, and excitement filled the morning as students watched their rockets take off and saw theory come to life.
We thank all participants and collaborators for making this outreach activity a success, and we look forward to continuing to bring aerospace engineering closer to the community through future initiatives.
