Science, Space and Role Models Reach Elementary school

As part of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science Week, the Aircraft Operations Lab proudly participated in an outreach activity held on Friday, February 13 at CEIP Teresa Berganza (Boadilla del Monte). The event was led by María Cerezo and involved 75 fourth-grade students eager to discover the exciting world of science and engineering.

This initiative was also framed within “Una ingeniera en cada cole”, a program promoted by the Women for Technological Innovation Network of the Association of Women Researchers and Technologists (AMIT-MIT, by its acronym in Spanish). The goal of this initiative is to strengthen the visibility and presence of women in STEAM fields by bringing female role models in science and technology directly into schools.

The session began with an engaging talk on science and engineering, highlighting the important contributions of women throughout history and encouraging students to imagine themselves as future innovators.

After the talk, students took part in a hands-on workshop entitled “Space: Build Your Own Satellite.” Working creatively and collaboratively, they designed and built a small model satellite equipped with a parachute. The activity concluded with a launch test, where students evaluated how well their designs performed during descent.

Through activities like this, the Aircraft Operations Lab continues to promote STEAM education, curiosity, and inclusion among the next generation of explorers.
