Last week, under the guidance of Prof. Manuel Soler, students enrolled in the Aeronautical Engineering Master’s Program were privileged to tour the Torrejón Area Control Center (ACC). This visit proved to be a captivating venture into the heart of the ENAIRE Control Center complex situated in Madrid, highlighting its pivotal role in Spanish air traffic management.
The ACC located in Torrejón de Ardoz offers an array of services ranging from overseeing air traffic within the Madrid FIR/UIR region to delivering crucial proximity assistance to airports across the Madrid Community. This control center ensures the safety and efficiency of Spanish airspace and contributes to nationwide centralized services through REDAN, CRAMI, and the SACTA Automatic Air Navigation System, underscoring its strategic significance.
Exploring the Torrejón ACC also provided a firsthand insight into the cutting-edge technology and precision integral to air traffic management. Whether utilizing satellite navigation systems like EGNOS or deploying advanced communication and control technologies, the center exemplifies an unwavering dedication to safety and operational excellence. This immersive experience not only deepened students’ understanding but also enriched their academic pursuits with invaluable practical knowledge of air traffic operations.
