María Cerezo reaches the semifinal of Solo de Ciencia 2026

María Cerezo, lecturer and researcher at the Aircraft Operations Lab (Aerospace Engineering Department at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid), has reached the semifinal of Solo de Ciencia 2026, a scientific outreach competition organized by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT).

This initiative brings together researchers from across Spain to communicate their work through engaging and accessible scientific monologues, fostering public interest in science and innovation.

In this context, María Cerezo presented her monologue titled Haciendo el ganso—a Spanish expression meaning clowning around and, literally, acting the goose. Through this creative performance, she introduced audiences to the concept of formation flight, a research area with strong potential to improve the efficiency and sustainability of aviation.

Formation flight, one of the research lines explored within the Aircraft Operations Lab, investigates how aircraft flying in coordinated formations can reduce fuel consumption and environmental impact. Cerezo’s work contributes to advancing these strategies, which are increasingly relevant in the transition toward more sustainable air transport.

Her participation in Solo de Ciencia 2026 highlights the importance of science communication as a tool to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and society, making complex aerospace concepts understandable and engaging for a broader audience.

The semifinal performance is available on YouTube. Don’t miss it!
