Exploring the Climate Impact of Aviation with Elementary School Students from PEAC West Madrid

This month, the UC3M hosted an engaging outreach event aimed at illustrating the significant role aviation plays in climate change and highlighting the ongoing efforts in research to address this issue.

The event took place on April 6th at the UC3M Auditorium and EPS in Leganés Campus, featuring a combination of theatrical presentations, informative talks, and interactive sessions with researchers from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M). The audience comprised approximately 150 Elementary School students participating in the Educational Enrichment Program for Students with High Abilities (PEAC) of the Community of Madrid, specifically from the West Madrid area, including Pozuelo and Las Rozas.

Following the theatrical presentations, the students had the opportunity to participate in workshops encompassing both arts and sciences at the Polytechnic School (EPS) of UC3M.

The Aircraft Operations Lab’s talk was titled “The impact of aircraft contrails on climate change”, presented by Manuel Soler. It is linked to the research carried out in the SESAR-funded E-CONTRAIL project (GA 101114795).
