Successful PhD Defense by Fateme Baneshi

The Aircraft Operations Lab at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid is pleased to announce that Fateme Baneshi has successfully defended her PhD thesis, entitled:

“Network-Level Aircraft Trajectory Optimization for Climate Impact Mitigation using Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning.”

Her thesis represents a significant contribution to the field of climate-aware aviation, advancing the development of AI-driven methods for optimizing aircraft trajectories at network scale with the aim of reducing the climate impact of air traffic. The research integrates advanced multi-agent reinforcement learning techniques with emerging scientific knowledge on aviation’s non-CO₂ effects, providing methodological innovations with high potential for future operational applications.
