Alejandra Martín Frías Successfully Defends Her Thesis on Contrail Mitigation in Commercial Flight Planning

The Aircraft Operations Lab is glad to announce the successful PhD thesis defense of Alejandra Martín Frías, held today, October 23rd, at 10:00 a.m. in the Salón de Grados of the Padre Soler Building at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Leganés campus.

Her thesis, entitled “Contrail Mitigation in Commercial Flight Planning: From Model Integration to Policy Design,” was conducted under the supervision of Manuel Soler Arnedo (UC3M). The research addresses the integration of contrail modeling into commercial flight planning and explores the role of policy design in supporting the implementation of contrail mitigation strategies.

By examining the connection between scientific modeling, flight operations, and policy making, this work contributes to ongoing research efforts aimed at reducing aviation’s climate impact and advancing more sustainable practices in commercial air transport.

The Aircraft Operations Lab extends its congratulations to Alejandra on the successful completion of this important academic milestone and we hope that her research will contribute meaningfully to the continued advancement of sustainable aviation.
